Finding Light Between the Headlines

A Thoughtful Tuesday Post –

Lately, I feel like I can’t help but doom scroll. It’s almost automatic at this point, scroll after scroll, and it feels like every other post is the worst news imaginable. Every now and then there’s a funny trend or something light, but for the most part, it’s just sad, heavy, bad news stacked on top of more bad news.

And I think part of what makes it harder is how complicated and confusing everything feels. You start overanalyzing, how did we get here? Why did we get here? What went wrong? But honestly, I don’t think we’re meant to carry all of that at once. At some point, we can’t live inside the “why” anymore. We have to look at what’s in front of us, see things for what they are, and accept that this is the reality we’re in right now.

I think that acceptance is the first step. Not because it makes things okay, but because once you accept what is, you can start thinking about what you can actually do. That’s when actionable steps become possible. That’s when hope has somewhere to land instead of staying sad, stuck and spiraling elsewhere.

Still, it’s hard. It’s really hard to pull yourself out of that sad, stuck mindset. You can feel frozen, like you don’t know what to do, how to help, or how to stay hopeful when things around you feel anything but hopeful. And sometimes it feels intentional, like the constant flood of horrible news is designed to keep people overwhelmed, complacent, or paralyzed.

Even when things aren’t happening directly to me, it’s still heavy to witness. It makes you think: How could this happen?

But I keep coming back to this idea: we have to stay hopeful. And we have to stop doom scrolling, yes, I’m saying this to myself too. Choosing happiness, choosing hope, choosing to find light where we can. It almost feels like an act of rebellion. A quiet one, but a powerful one.

Because when you refuse to let the sadness consume you completely, you’re able to keep going and stay focused. You’re able to show up. Speak up. You’re able to believe that something better is possible. Being hopeful doesn’t mean ignoring reality. It means believing that even in the middle of it, we can still create something better. A more positive future. A softer one. A happier one for all. Peace & love always.
