A Mundane Monday Post –

This past week or honestly, this past Monday turning into the whole week was busy. As usual. Work has been chaotic, but not in a bad way, just one of those nonstop, deadline after deadline kind of busy weeks. We went to the Met Museum, which was actually really nice, but after that it was straight back into work mode. Emails, deadlines, things that needed to get done, you know the drill.
By the time Friday rolled around, I was ready to unwind, but at the same time, I wasn’t exactly excited for Saturday because I knew it was going to be a very busy day.
Saturday came, and my husband headed out to a family party for my sister’s boyfriend’s mom, who was celebrating her 70th birthday. He went with my mom, my sister, her boyfriend, and their whole family. It sounded like such a nice time.
Meanwhile, I still went to Wine Fest over by Hudson Yards. Had gotten these tickets three months prior. I went with my mother-in-law, her sister, and her sister’s bestie, and honestly we had a great time. This year, Wine Fest was half wine and half booze, which was dangerous. You don’t really realize how much you’ve tasted until suddenly you’re very lit.
We definitely had a few favorites. One of them tasted almost exactly like a lychee martini, which was honestly wild. I was shocked at how close it tasted to an actual cocktail. Then there was another wine, I don’t remember the name at all, but it was one of the first ones we tried, and I loved how light it was. It was fruity but not heavy, just super easy to drink. I’m not a wine connoisseur by any means, but that one really stood out.
Then there was this whiskey that was paired with Madagascar vanilla and had this subtle coffee flavor. It was so good! Not overly sweet, not bitter either. It felt like something you could drink on its own over ice or easily mix into an espresso martini situation. Unfortunately, some of our favorites weren’t being sold there, only at local wine shops, but honestly, it was fine.
After Wine Fest, we decided to go to Porchlight… and that’s where things really escalated.
We were waiting for my husband to come pick us up, but he needed more time because they were still doing dessert and birthday cake at the party. So we said, “Okay, one more drink.” Which turned into two drinks. And fries. And then waiting some more.
At one point, it fully hit that stage of the night. One person had their head down on the table because they were done. Another person was just pacing around. Someone…me.. I started talking to a random older gentleman about politics, which is never a good idea. He was actually very kind and polite, but at that moment, I personally needed to sit the fuck down and stop talking to anyone.
A few drinks in, an espresso martini later… yeah, we were all finished. I almost lost my purse, which is how I knew those Wine Fest drinks really caught up to us. The festival itself ran from 6:00 to 9:30 PM, so we had been drinking nonstop for hours before adding two more drinks at the bar. Of course we were feeling the way we were feeling.
Eventually, my husband arrived, and we finally headed home.
The next morning? Brutal. I woke up with one of the worst hangovers. The girls and I ordered from my favorite deli, beacon, egg and cheese sandwiches and at least four Gatorades. After that early morning recovery mission, I went straight back to bed. Thank God for a three day weekend.
