Meals that got me through the week

A WD Wednesday Post –

This week’s meals were a true reflection of how life has been moving lately: fast, functional, and occasionally fantastic.

It was another stretch fueled mostly by takeout and quick fixes. There was a Caesar chicken salad that looked promising but ended up being aggressively mid. A few cold-cut deli sandwiches that did their job and nothing more. Applebee’s made an appearance, with wings and chicken penne, reliable, predictable, and exactly what you expect every single time. Comfort food in its most consistent form.

Then there was the shrimp and broccoli. On paper? Solid. In reality? Also mid. Not bad enough to complain, not good enough to crave again. Just… there.

But then came the highlight of the week: hibachi.

I upgraded my usual order and went with salmon and Wagyu for an extra five dollars and honestly, best decision I made all week. It was rich, perfectly cooked, and absolutely worth the splurge. We started with yellowtail and miso soup, which set the tone beautifully, and by the time the hibachi hit the table, everything else I’d eaten that week faded into the background.

Looking back, most of the takeout was forgettable, and that’s okay. Not every meal has to be a moment. But the ones that hit? They remind you that sometimes spending a little extra, slowing down, and choosing something you’ll genuinely enjoy makes all the difference.

So yes, this week was full of “mid” meals, but the hibachi redeemed it all.
