A Week of Reclaiming Balance

A WD Wednesday Post –

Last week, I let life win a little or maybe, more honestly, I surrendered to it. Between feeling under the weather and the exhaustion that comes with just trying to keep up, I traded my usual meals for convenience: takeout containers, delivery bags, and anything that didn’t require effort. It was comforting in the moment, the kind of comfort that soothes but doesn’t sustain.

But as the week faded, I started to feel it, that sluggish fog that settles in after too much indulgence and not enough nourishment. My body was whispering what my mind already knew: it’s time to come back home to myself.

Getting back to healthy eating has never been about perfection for me; it’s about rhythm. It’s about finding that balance between fueling myself and still finding joy in what I eat. The truth is, when life gets chaotic, food becomes the first thing to slip — but it can also be the first step toward getting back on track.

So this week, I’m easing back into it, gently, without guilt. I’m focusing on simple, satisfying meals that don’t require a degree in nutrition or endless prep. Just real food that makes me feel good.

Mornings are all about ease, eggs, avocado, and toast, creamy, comforting, and balanced. Sometimes I’ll sprinkle chili flakes or squeeze a bit of lemon just to wake up my taste buds. For lunch, it’s chicken salad, tender, refreshing, something I can make once and stretch over two days. I like to toss in a bit of crunch, cucumbers, red onions, or even a handful of nuts for texture. Snacks have become my small acts of self-care, a bowl of fresh fruit, with a side of nuts or some dark chocolate. It’s not fancy, but it’s a pause, a reminder that I’m taking care of myself in small, consistent ways. My one treat that has a little more sugar than I would like is my daily lattes that I make from home.

And when dinner rolls around, I’m aiming for balance, a plate with color and comfort. Usually, it’s a piece of grilled or baked meat,  chicken, salmon, or even steak, paired with something green, maybe roasted broccoli or sautéed spinach, and a warm carb to ground it all, like pasta tossed lightly in olive oil or a simple roasted potato. Nothing too greasy, nothing heavy, just food that fuels.

To make this stick, I’m leaning on systems, not willpower because motivation fades, but structure stays. I’ve started planning my meals on Sundays, even if it’s just jotting down a few ideas in my notes app. I’m keeping my fridge stocked with basics I know I’ll eat, like eggs, greens, avocados, and pre-cooked chicken. I’m also making it a point to hydrate, truly hydrate, because sometimes that mid-afternoon craving isn’t hunger, it’s thirst in disguise.

Mostly, though, I’m trying to be kind to myself in the process. Because coming back to balance isn’t about punishing yourself for slipping it’s about remembering that you can always begin again. Every meal, every morning, every choice is a quiet declaration: I’m trying, and that’s enough.

So this week isn’t about restriction. It’s about renewal about feeding myself the way I want to feel clear, grounded, and alive.
