Festive Chaos

A Mundane Monday Post –

This past week felt like someone hit fast-forward on my life and forgot to tell me.

It started as one of those weeks, deadline chasing, point by point panic, and way more takeout than I promised myself I’d eat (lies were told, containers were opened). Then, midweek, the universe threw in a plot twist: my boss casually stopped me and offered me his Broadway tickets. Turns out there was some kind of circus situation on Broadway and he couldn’t make it. He couldn’t find anyone else. I, of course, accepted immediately, no hesitation, no shame.

I texted my husband to meet me at Madison Square Garden, because why not add a little logistical chaos to the mix? After a long workday, an after-school club, and helping out at a holiday event, I practically sprinted downtown. When I got there, confusion set in, Andrea Bocelli was also performing that night, so the lines were… festive and confusing. Eventually we picked the right one, grabbed a drink, and squeezed into an already packed theater. Everyone else was perfectly on time; we were fashionably a few minutes late, which honestly felt on brand.

After the show, my sister met up with us for a quick dinner, which turned into drinks when my brother-in-law and one of my husband’s friends joined. One thing led to another, and suddenly it was much later than planned. We made it home, collapsed into bed, and woke up the next day feeling exactly how you’d expect.

Friday rolled around with no mercy. I spent the day working on my holiday classroom door for a decorating competition. The prizes were serious business, Knicks tickets, Broadway tickets, restaurant gift certificates, and even honorary mentions. Stakes were high.

By the weekend, my sister came to the rescue after seeing my door desperately needed help. Before decorating, we took a quick trip to TJ Maxx, where we encountered the classic holiday phenomenon: the checkout line standoff. You know the one—someone tries to skip, someone gets defensive, and suddenly everyone’s energy is off. After surviving that, we rewarded ourselves with a quick Applebee’s lunch. The server was great, the vibes were good, and all was forgiven.

Next stop: Target. I hadn’t been there in over a year. Target had what we needed, so we grabbed our items with purpose and fled. Back home, I finally finished decorating the door, and then it was off to celebrate my father-in-law’s birthday with the in-laws, a fun and much needed pause.

The following day? Blissfully uneventful. A slow, cozy reset day that we absolutely needed.

All in all, it was a busy, chaotic, slightly unhinged week, but honestly… A really good one.
