Getting Back Into It

A Mundane Monday Post

This week has been all about getting back into it, slowly, carefully, but surely. After that horrifying fall… seriously, it still spooks me just thinking about it, I made it my mission to rest up. Honestly, if I’d hit my head, things could’ve gone a lot worse, so I’m counting my blessings, just some bruised ribs and a bruised ego.

I took it easy most of the week: Ubers to work, buses home. The small things felt like wins. By Friday, I finally saw a doctor who confirmed what I suspected, just bruising, nothing broken. Still, it felt reassuring to hear it out loud.

Saturday felt like my little comeback. I went back on my walks, the air felt fresher than ever, maybe because I’d been cooped up. I came home, did some stretches, showered, and made a simple breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage, and toast. Nothing fancy, but it hit the spot. I knocked out a few chores, read a bit, and then unsurprisingly took a nap, as per usual on a lazy Saturday. The day drifted by in the best way, some TikTok scrolling, YouTube videos, cooked dinner, journaled, did some work on my laptop for a little, and tucked myself into bed feeling balanced again.

Sunday kept that calm rhythm going. I started the morning with another walk, then spent some quiet time journaling, studying, stretching, and tidying up. Later that day, I tried out a restaurant in Dobbs Ferry by the water, such a refreshing change of scenery from the city grind. The sun was setting beautifully across the Hudson River, spilling over the small mountains like a watercolor painting. On the drive home, we blasted some Charli XCX and sang like we were on tour. Pure ecstasy.

Monday (we got a day off for a holiday!) was a treat. I kicked off the morning with a scenic walk again, my favorite ritual,  before my sister texted asking if I wanted to hang out. Of course, I said yes. We decided on some sister time and dress shopping by Fifth Ave. We hit Nordstrom first, tried on a few dresses (none were perfect, most would need alterations), and when hunger struck, we stopped by their restaurant for salad and shrimp pasta.

Afterwards, we wandered down Fifth, popped into a few of our favorite stores, but still no luck and ended the day at Café Bilboquet for coffee. In the end, we found a dress online, which honestly felt like such a modern full circle moment.

This week felt like a slow return to normalcy, a little bruised, a little tired, but grounded, grateful, and easing back into the rhythm of things.
